In November of 2006 I had hip surgery to repair ligaments and tendons I tore when I fell during a wilderness run in Vermont. Srino Bharam, M.D. did the work and I had speedy recovery.
I went to Dr. Bharam again last week for a consult regarding the torn meniscus in my right knee. He no longer takes my insurance plan so can't do the surgery, but he spent a considerable amount of time reviewing my MRI and discussing my options. He then had his office manager locate a colleague that did take my insurance (Andrew Feldman, M.D. who looks after the NY Rangers).
This struck me as very generous and beyond the call of duty, then I thought back and realized that even during the numerous visits I made to Dr. Bharam before and after my hip surgery as well as the surgery itself, Dr. Bharam never charged me a penny. He never once asked for even a co-payment due him. I volunteered one on several occasions, but both he and his office manager just waved me off with a smile. I think he does the same thing with all his patients.
This seems rare to me and worthy of remark.
